The higher power version of POE which is called POE Plus (or PoE+) and has the name IEEE802.3at, has been ratified at last with a maximum power of 25.5W. Some manufacturers are producing units with even more power available but would seem to fall outside the standard. Care must be used in selecting devices.

Designated the POE125U-4HP, the midspan is capable of the proprietary “handshake” required for the AP1250 that tells the access point the midspan is capable of handling high power so it can work at the maximum power range and data rate.
